A recent letter to the editor in the Lodi News-Sentinel highlights something that matters deeply to San Joaquin County—honoring those who served.
Local veteran leaders, including the American Legion Family Karl Ross Post 16 and the United Veterans Council of San Joaquin County, publicly expressed their gratitude to Supervisor Steve Ding for his leadership in helping bring The Vietnam Moving Wall back to Stockton.
The Moving Wall is more than a memorial. It is a place of remembrance, reflection, and healing for veterans, families, and the entire community.
In the letter, Commander Marvin HernandezGarcia praised Ding for showing that his support for veterans goes beyond words.
“His support for veterans is not just words—it is action.”
That message reflects a consistent pattern.
Time and again, Steve Ding has stood with the veteran community—supporting initiatives, showing up for events, and helping ensure the sacrifices of our nation’s heroes are never forgotten.
Bringing The Moving Wall back to Stockton is a meaningful effort that requires commitment, coordination, and leadership. It’s another example of Steve Ding working alongside community leaders to make it happen.
This is what leadership looks like: honoring service, supporting those who served, and keeping their legacy alive for future generations.

To the Editor,
On behalf of the American Legion Family Karl Ross Post 16 and the United Veterans Council of San Joaquin, I would like to publicly extend our sincere gratitude to San Joaquin County Supervisor Steve Ding for his willingness to help bring The Vietnam Moving Wall back to Stockton.
The Moving Wall is more than a memorial. It is a sacred place of remembrance, reflection, and healing for veterans, families, and our community. Bringing this powerful tribute back to Stockton is no small task, and it requires leaders who understand the importance of honoring those who served and those who never came home.
Supervisor Steve Ding has once again shown that his support for veterans is not just words, it is action. Time and time again, he has stood with our veteran community, supported our causes, and helped ensure that the sacrifices of our nation’s heroes are never forgotten. His willingness to assist in bringing The Moving Wall back to Stockton is yet another example of his unwavering commitment to those who have worn the uniform and to the families who continue to carry that legacy.
Simply put, words are not enough to fully express our appreciation.
In a time when true support can often be hard to find, Supervisor Ding continues to show up for veterans in meaningful ways. His leadership, compassion, and continued dedication to our veteran community do not go unnoticed, and they are deeply appreciated by all of us who work to preserve the memory and honor of those who served.
Thank you, Supervisor Ding, for your continued support of Stockton’s veterans and for helping us bring this important tribute home once again.
Respectfully,
Marvin HernandezGarcia
Commander, American Legion Karl Ross Post 16Chairman, United Veterans Council of San Joaquin County
